Full StoryKelly is playing ping-pong with another girl called Smith. The clue is this situation is just a video game controlled by the Air band members. Suddenly Kelly is hit by the ball and gets knocked-out. Kelly drifts away in an astral like scene and finally returns by the efforts of the two medics (the band members as well).

Wiki

Synopsis

In a surreal table-tennis match, Kelly faces an opponent named Smith under the watch of a stern referee. After being struck by the ball, Kelly loses consciousness and drifts upward into the night sky, where the match briefly takes on a weightless, dreamlike quality. She eventually returns to the table, wakes up, and carries on playing. Intercut scenes show Air apparently recreating the contest through a game of Pong, turning the video into a playful collision of sports, video games, and cosmic fantasy.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The names on the scoreboard, Kelly and Smith, reference Kelly Garrett and Jaclyn Smith, who played her in the television series "Charlie's Angels."
  • The video mirrors "Moon Safari"'s fascination with stars, planets, and weightlessness. Kelly's sudden ascent turns the song's space-themed imagery into a literal visual gag.
  • Air's role in the match is presented through Pong, making the electronic duo appear to control or simulate the action rather than perform in a conventional band setting.
  • IMDb lists Bob Stephenson in the cast as the ping-pong referee.
  • "Kelly Watch the Stars" was released as the second single from "Moon Safari" in 1998 and became Air's second-highest-charting single in the United Kingdom.
  • The song's repetitive, deliberately simple hook contrasts with the video's increasingly strange imagery, helping give the clip its memorable late-1990s surrealist character.
