Synopsis

Blur wander through west London at night in a restless, urban portrait set to "Bang." The band appear in black-and-white performance footage, while time-lapse images turn passing traffic into streams of light. The video moves between nighttime streets, city architecture, and casual scenes of the group indoors, where Graham Coxon plays guitar and the band sit around a Scrabble board. Its detached, observational style captures Blur during their early, pre-Britpop period.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video uses time-lapse photography of nighttime traffic, creating bright streaks from car headlights.
  • Several shots feature the Centre Point building, one of London's most recognizable landmarks.
  • The indoor sequence includes a Scrabble board, while records by The Beatles, Bob Dylan, and Love can be seen near Graham Coxon.
  • The video was made for "Bang," Blur's third single, released on July 29, 1991, from the album "Leisure."
  • "Bang" reached No. 24 on the UK Singles Chart, but its video received relatively little attention compared with later Blur promos.
  • Dave Rowntree has reportedly named "Bang" as his favorite Blur video.
  • The combination of London night scenes, architectural views, and moving headlights has drawn comparisons with the visual atmosphere of "Tomorrow Comes Today," a later Gorillaz video associated with Damon Albarn.

Lyrics

Sitting in a SDT
Waiting for an undreground trail
To rumble underneath my teeth
Bang goes another day
Where it went I could not say
Now I'll have to wait another week
Where all is said and all is done
What was said was never done
Don't panic
It's not really worth your while
Bang goes another day
In and out of one ear
Everybody's doing it so do it too
