Synopsis

Brandon Boyd encounters an older version of himself at one end of a corridor, while his father, Charles, approaches from the other as a much younger man. The two figures gradually exchange ages until they meet in the middle, then pass through one another and continue on. Intercut are stark performance scenes: Incubus play in a red chamber, appear in white against a pale setting, and perform in red while surrounded by formally dressed office workers.

• Brandon Boyd's father, Charles Mulholland, plays the older version of Boyd in the corridor sequence. Mulholland was an actor who had worked primarily during the 1970s.

• Boyd was 23 when he wrote "Pardon Me," matching the age referenced in the song's lyrics. The video's aging concept gives that lyric a visual counterpart by placing youth and old age in the same journey.

• The video premiered on The Box during the week ending January 16, 2000.

• "Pardon Me" was Incubus' first song to receive commercial radio attention, although it initially struggled to gain momentum. Support from Los Angeles station KROQ and exposure on MTV helped turn the album version into a breakthrough hit.
