Synopsis

Shot from Lily Allen's point of view, the video follows her journey from a hotel room through the streets of Paris and toward a television studio. Using her hands and shifting perspective, she playfully distorts the world around her: the Eiffel Tower stretches, hairstyles expand, and passersby become visual curiosities. A Polaroid image occasionally reveals Allen herself, while the bright, surreal imagery turns the song's angry message into a mischievous visual prank aimed at narrow-mindedness, prejudice, and abuse of power.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was posted on Parlophone's official YouTube channel on June 15, 2009, ahead of the song's international single campaign.
  • It was a French commission produced through Frenzy Paris, with the visual effects and post-production handled by the Paris-based Firm studio.
  • The entire concept depends on forced perspective and digital manipulation rather than a conventional performance setup. The first-person camera makes Allen's hand gestures appear to control the scale and shape of Paris.
  • Allen did not see the nearly completed video until it was about 75 percent finished. The creative team later said she liked the result and wanted to appear in it, leading to the Polaroid shot of her face.
  • The song had originally circulated under the title "Guess Who Batman" and began as a response to the British National Party before Allen publicly identified George W. Bush as its main target during a Los Angeles concert in April 2009.
