Synopsis

Presented as a trailer for a fictional NC-17 movie, the video follows Adam Levine as he discovers his girlfriend, played by Kim Smith, in bed with another man, portrayed by Jeremy Sisto. After shooting the lover, Levine and Smith attempt to conceal the crime. The band's other members appear in a series of sensational crime-film vignettes, while the couple's cover-up grows increasingly complicated. The main version ends with Levine being arrested, leaving the consequences unresolved.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was filmed in Los Angeles in July 2007.
  • Kim Smith plays Levine's girlfriend, while Jeremy Sisto appears as the man caught with her.
  • Its fake movie-trailer format uses exaggerated genre imagery and fictional promotional language to frame the song's story as lurid crime melodrama.
  • A director's cut expands the ending: James Valentine is shown making an obscene gesture in his mug-shot sequence, and Levine is ultimately sentenced to death.
  • The video's violent storyline was notably darker and more provocative than Maroon 5's generally polished pop-rock image at the time.
  • The song was released as the second single from the band's 2007 album "It Won't Be Soon Before Long."
