Synopsis

Avril Lavigne turns a Los Angeles street intersection into a spontaneous pop-punk concert. Before the performance begins, her friends and bandmates spread the word through graffiti, flyers, emails and posters. Lavigne arrives with her band, climbs onto a car and starts singing while the crowd rapidly grows around them. Skateboarders, fans and passersby join the unruly celebration as the performance becomes a full-scale street takeover, ending with Lavigne and her crew making a dramatic escape by helicopter.

• The video premiered on MTV's Total Request Live on August 22, 2002, and reached No. 1 on the countdown after only two days.

• MTV devoted an episode of Making the Video to the production. The episode was released in the United States on August 12, 2002.

• The video's street-concert concept matched the song's rebellious pop-punk image and helped establish Lavigne's early visual identity: necktie, tank top, skate-inspired styling and a deliberately unpolished attitude.

• The video received a nomination for Best Pop Video at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards.

• In May 2003, Paramount Pictures acquired the option to develop a feature film based on the song. David Zabel was attached to write the screenplay.

• The song was written by Lavigne with the songwriting and production trio the Matrix, whose work also shaped several other major tracks on her debut album, Let Go.
