Synopsis

Incubus perform "Wish You Were Here" against a stark white backdrop as wind moves around them, while casual footage captures the band relaxing during the making of Morning View. The video moves between performance shots and scenes of the group at their Malibu recording house, including time in the control room, by the pool, and on the lawn. Its informal, home-video feel complements the song's focus on appreciating a fleeting moment and wishing someone could share it.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video released for regular television was assembled quickly after the original concept was withdrawn in the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks.

• The original version showed Incubus being chased by a crowd of female fans before jumping from a bridge. The sequence was modeled on a scene from the 1968 film "Head," starring The Monkees.

• The original bridge-jump cut was later made available, along with behind-the-scenes material, on the 2002 DVD "The Morning View Sessions."

• Much of the replacement video's additional footage came from material filmed while the band was living and recording together at a house above the beaches of Malibu.

• The relaxed footage was edited by Brett Spivey and helped turn the substitute version into a snapshot of the band's creative and domestic life during the Morning View sessions.
