Synopsis

Kylie Minogue turns the disco floor into a surreal stage filled with glitter, mirrors, bold costumes and seemingly endless copies of herself. Moving through synchronized formations and retro dance tableaux, she shifts between campy showgirl poses, patriotic imagery and 1970s-inspired club glamour. The visual builds toward an exaggerated Busby Berkeley-style spectacle, presenting Kylie as both the star and the entire dance troupe. Its playful excess matches the song's celebratory call for everyone to join the party.

Factoids & Trivia

• The original video was filmed in Los Angeles in 2000 and uses the Casino Radio & Club Remix rather than the standard album version.

• Its visual style draws on 1970s discotheque imagery and references Olivia Newton-John's "Suspended in Time" and the 1980 film "Xanadu."

• The repeated Kylie figures are a playful nod to the geometric mass choreography associated with Busby Berkeley, particularly the 1934 musical film "Dames."

• The video was made for a song from "Light Years," but "Your Disco Needs You" was not released as a regular UK single. Its camp tone and openly queer appeal were widely cited as reasons the label passed on a UK release.

• A separate version was produced for the German market. It is a simpler performance video featuring balloons, gold streamers and the black-and-gold "Your Disco Needs You" shirt seen on the single artwork.

• Despite its limited single release, the song became a recurring favorite in Minogue's live shows and has remained one of the most enthusiastically remembered tracks from the "Light Years" era.
