Synopsis

Bibio's "Dye The Water Green" unfolds as a hazy, dreamlike collage of rural landscapes, flowing water, vegetation, shadowy figures, and abstract textures. Factoids & Trivia

• The video was released in January 2014 as a companion to The Green E.P., which followed Bibio's 2013 album Silver Wilkinson. "Dye The Water Green" was Bibio's favorite track from that album and served as the centerpiece for the EP.

• Part of the landscape footage was filmed at Cwm Einion in Wales, a location Bibio has described as especially important to his connection with the Welsh countryside.

• Bibio filmed some of the Cwm Einion material with a JVC camcorder. The deliberately aged image quality contributes to the video's nostalgic, VHS-like character.

• Michael Robinson expanded the material with footage shot largely in Pennsylvania, layering and texturizing the images until they became semi-abstract. Additional footage came from Jared Pike and David Mowad.

• The performance material was filmed in low light with a single candle providing the main illumination. Robinson had previously experimented with lifting similarly dark VHS footage in post-production, revealing subdued details and video noise.

• Bibio said the finished video came closest to translating his dreams or imagination into a viewable form.

• Although the song's title and imagery suggest synesthesia, Bibio has said that the association with green comes from imagination rather than physically hearing colors. He connected the track's mood with murky water and a green bottle.
