Synopsis
Set in a post-apocalyptic New York where rap music has been outlawed, the video follows Onyx and Wu-Tang Clan as underground rebels operating in Chinatown. The rappers move through grimy streets and a crowded Chinese restaurant while delivering aggressive verses, surrounded by an atmosphere of surveillance, danger and resistance. The stark locations, confrontational performances and dystopian premise turn the collaboration into a short street-fantasy film about artists refusing to be silenced.
Factoids & Trivia
- The video was filmed in December 1997 in Manhattan's Chinatown. Several scenes were shot inside Ipoh Garden Malaysian Chinese, a restaurant used as one of the video's main locations.
- It premiered on The BOX on March 14, 1998.
- The song first appeared on the soundtrack to the film *Ride*, which starred Onyx members Fredro Starr, Sticky Fingaz and Sonny Seeza. It was later included on Onyx's *Shut 'Em Down* album.
- Despite the "Wu-Tang Clan" billing, the Wu-Tang contribution came from Method Man and Raekwon, with Killa Sin also appearing. The track is therefore a collaboration between Onyx and selected members of the Wu-Tang circle rather than a full-group performance.
- Sticky Fingaz described the song as a meeting of "the worst of the worst," using the phrase as a boast about being the most intimidating forces in hip-hop.
- According to the production credits, Latief produced the track. Its dense sample collage includes material associated with Quincy Jones, *Chitty Chitty Bang Bang*, *Mary Poppins* and Brand Nubian, alongside a sample from Wu-Tang Clan's "Protect Ya Neck."
- The single reached No. 22 on Billboard's Hot Rap Singles chart, No. 64 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart and No. 6 on the Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales chart.
- The video was later included on the 2008 DVD compilation *Onyx: 15 Years of Videos, History & Violence*.
