Synopsis

The video follows a macabre journey from death to damnation. It opens with distorted surgery footage as a child watches television, then shifts to Dave Mustaine singing in surreal, waterlogged surroundings. A mock funeral gives way to burial imagery, a voyage across the River Styx, and an infernal landscape filled with smoke, corpses, rats, religious symbols, and demonic figures. Megadeth perform amid the horror, with stop-motion touches, stark color effects, and theatrical imagery reinforcing the song's grimly sarcastic vision of the afterlife.

Factoids & Trivia

• "Go to Hell" was written for the soundtrack to the 1991 film "Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey." The project was reportedly developed while the movie was still known by the working title "Bill & Ted Go to Hell."

• The song first appeared on the film soundtrack and was later included on Megadeth's 1995 compilation "Hidden Treasures."

• David Ellefson's then-wife, Julie Foley, supplied the female voice heard during the prayer at the beginning of the recording. Dave Mustaine requested her participation, and the vocal was recorded at Enterprise Studios in Burbank in 1991.

• The prayer creates an unintended connection with Metallica's "Enter Sandman," which also uses "Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep." The two songs were released only weeks apart, and Megadeth's official account says neither band knew the other was using the prayer.

• The video was included on Megadeth's 1992 home-video release "Exposure of a Dream," alongside videos from the "Countdown to Extinction" era.
