• Marty Wilde said the song was inspired by the feeling of standing on the Forth Bridge near Edinburgh while in a deeply troubled state of mind. He imagined a girl in a raincoat disappearing into the fog, an image that closely matches the song's bleak emotional world.

• The single reached No. 16 in the United Kingdom and became a larger commercial success in several other markets, including No. 7 in Australia, No. 6 in West Germany, No. 4 in Belgium and Sweden, and No. 2 in Switzerland.
