Synopsis

The Dream Academy leave the city behind for a loose, sunlit country escape filmed around Long Island. Moving through fields, roads, and open-air spaces, the trio turn the weekend into a playful pastoral daydream, mixing relaxed performance footage with casual wandering and small, cinematic details. Gilbert Gabriel's motor scooter adds a touch of eccentric motion, while the warm locations and unforced behavior give the video an intimate, homemade feel. Rather than illustrating the song literally, it creates a breezy world of romance, freedom, and gentle adventure.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was filmed in Long Island, where the band and crew spent a weekend living and working together. Nick Laird-Clowes later described the shoot as an unusually joyful experience.

• The band had substantial creative input. The filmmakers brought Super-8 cameras to the group's hotel, and the musicians felt the informal approach suited their cinematic, non-commercial sensibility.

• Gilbert Gabriel's motor scooter became one of the video's most memorable visual details.

• The song has two associated video versions. The US edition uses a radio remix that differs slightly from the album recording.

• "The Love Parade" was the only track on The Dream Academy's debut album not produced by David Gilmour. Alan Tarney produced it instead, after the band decided its original demo had not reached its full potential.

• The video's visual reputation helped the same filmmaking team secure Steve Winwood's "Higher Love," a much bigger MTV production.

• The single became The Dream Academy's second US Top 40 hit, reaching No. 36 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1986.
