Synopsis

Jan Delay, performing under his Eissfeldt alias, delivers a reggae- and hip-hop-inflected cover of Nena's "Irgendwie, Irgendwo, Irgendwann." Set on a beach, the video mixes relaxed performance footage with surreal images of fish, swimming women, a dog, and hand-held signs, including "77" and "Nazis out." The loose, summery atmosphere is undercut by a striking final image: a radio is thrown into the water as the song ends.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The track was recorded as a cover for the 1999 compilation *Das gibt's nur einmal*, connected with the ARD and Viva television project *Pop 2000*.
  • Unlike Nena's original, this version incorporates a rap section and reshapes the song around reggae and hip-hop production.
  • Jan Delay is credited here as Eissfeldt, while the release also involves Dennis Dubplate and members of Absolute Beginner, including Denyo.
  • The song became one of the most successful releases associated with Jan Delay's early solo period, reaching No. 2 in Germany and Austria and No. 5 in Switzerland.
  • The single's main version runs for about five and a half minutes, while the video version is notably shorter, at roughly four minutes.
  • The video received the national Music Video of the Year award at the 2000 Echo Awards.
