Synopsis

Method Man and Redman tear through a surreal, post-apocalyptic industrial landscape filled with smoke, explosions, and club-like chaos. Their rapid-fire performances unfold among ruined factory spaces and bizarre underground settings, while visual effects heighten the track's comic-book intensity. Midway through, the video abruptly shifts into a parody of 1990s Gap commercials, complete with the intentionally ridiculous "Everybody in Stank Butt Jeans" slogan. The rappers then return to the wreckage, moving in exaggerated, synchronized steps while joined together, turning the performance into a deliberately absurd spectacle.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video accompanied the second single from *Blackout!*, Method Man and Redman's 1999 collaborative album.
  • "Da Rockwilder" runs only 2 minutes and 16 seconds and has one verse from each rapper with no conventional chorus. Method Man later said Redman disliked the beat, which contributed to the track's unusually short form.
  • The video's mock Gap-commercial interruption is one of its most remembered jokes. The fake slogan, "Everybody in Stank Butt Jeans," deliberately parodies the polished fashion advertising common in late-1990s music videos.
  • The production mixes post-apocalyptic imagery, industrial sets, explosions, and deliberately exaggerated choreography rather than presenting a straightforward club or performance clip.
  • The song interpolates "Hand on the Pump" by Cypress Hill.
  • "Da Rockwilder" reached No. 14 on the US Hot Rap Songs chart and helped establish the track as one of the defining recordings from the Method Man and Redman partnership.
  • The video received a Music Video of the Year nomination at the 2000 Source Awards.
  • In 2013, Complex placed the video at No. 28 on its list of the 50 best rap videos of the 1990s.
  • The song later appeared on soundtracks connected with *Gone in 60 Seconds*, *Save the Last Dance*, and *How High*.
