Synopsis

The Verve travel through a dry, rural landscape, walking along empty roads and hitchhiking as they make their way across southern Spain. The video's loose, documentary-like mood gives the journey a sense of aimlessness and freedom. Their wandering eventually leads them to an old brothel, where the band performs among the building's worn interiors and spends time with the women working there. The stark locations, hazy imagery, and unstructured action complement the song's expansive, psychedelic atmosphere.

• The video was filmed in Almeria, in southern Spain.

• A contemporary Melody Maker report from May 15, 1993, described the shoot as taking place partly inside an ancient brothel in Almeria.

• The video was made before "Slide Away" was released as a single on September 20, 1993.

• "Slide Away" was the second single from The Verve's debut album, *A Storm in Heaven*.

• The song had been retained after the band reworked much of its early material during a writing trip to Wales. The album version was subsequently recorded at Sawmills Studios in Cornwall with producer John Leckie.

• The single reached only number 98 on the UK singles chart, but its reputation grew through the band's early alternative-rock following and later critical recognition.
