Synopsis

Tori Amos appears trapped inside a transparent enclosure while medical figures examine her and keep her separated from her piano. Surrounded by a stark, industrial environment, she moves between confinement, strange performance imagery, and flashes of theatrical spectacle. The video gradually shifts from observation to rebellion as Amos breaks free and reaches the instrument that represents her voice and creative control. Its surreal, deliberately disjointed imagery mirrors the song's playful but cryptic energy rather than presenting a conventional narrative.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was issued in 1996 to accompany "The Tornado Mix," the remixed version used for the single release rather than the original album recording.
  • "The Tornado Mix" was produced with electronic musician BT and was also included on the soundtrack to the 1996 disaster film "Twister." The remix adds a dance-oriented pulse to the album version.
  • The clip was later included on "Tori Amos: Complete Videos 1991-1998," where it is specifically identified as using the Tornado Mix.
  • The video's imagery places Amos in a transparent box beside her piano, with the surrounding medical examination suggesting enforced control and separation from her instrument. The production's visual language is intentionally more surreal and theatrical than literal.
  • "Talula" was released as the second single from "Boys for Pele" and reached No. 22 on the UK Singles Chart.
