• With reported production costs of approximately $1.3 million, the video was widely described as one of the first rap videos made with a seven-figure budget. Its use of helicopters, explosions, chase sequences, and shark imagery helped establish the era of blockbuster-style hip-hop videos.

• The production was built around practical action effects rather than computer-generated imagery. Wyclef Jean later recalled performing his own stunts, including fight scenes that nearly dislocated his shoulder.

• Jean also said he could not swim at the time of filming. For the underwater sequence, he was secured with clamps so the crew could quickly pull him back to the surface if necessary.
