Synopsis
Set around a neighborhood bar, the video follows Jon Bon Jovi as he becomes captivated by a woman who appears in two contrasting forms: one elusive and glamorous, the other more vulnerable and exposed to danger. The band performs the song in staged barroom scenes while the romantic storyline unfolds around vintage cars, local streets, and encounters with threatening men. The video combines early-1980s rock performance footage with a lightly cinematic narrative about infatuation, fantasy, and an unreachable love interest.
Factoids & Trivia
- The video was released in the United States in May 1984 to promote "She Don't Know Me," the second single from Bon Jovi's self-titled debut album.
- Most of the story footage was filmed in and around the Brewery Bar in Benicia, California. The production also used the nearby Walnut Grove Market and local streets.
- Beth Toussaint plays the woman at the center of the story, appearing as two related versions of the same character.
- The video includes several vintage automobiles as prominent visual props, reinforcing its small-town, early-rock-and-roll atmosphere.
- The original ending reportedly included a scene in which the woman's alter ego points a gun at two men who are threatening her. That sequence was removed from the version commonly circulated today.
- The song was written by Mark Avsec, making it the only Bon Jovi release not written or co-written by a member of the band.
- "She Don't Know Me" reached No. 48 on the Billboard Hot 100.
