Synopsis

Joseph Mount and the rest of Metronomy turn Torquay into a sun-drenched fantasy of the English Riviera. Wearing bright, tailored clothes, the band perform around the seaside town as aerial views reveal the coastline, harbor, hotels, beaches, and open water. Split screens, choreographed groups, colorful portraits, and tongue-in-cheek glamour give the video the feel of a lavish American pop promo, while the unmistakably British setting keeps the humor grounded. The result is a stylish, playful celebration of home, summer, and seaside escapism.

• "The Bay" was released as the third single from Metronomy's 2011 album "The English Riviera" on June 10, 2011.

• The video was shot in Torquay, Devon, Joseph Mount's hometown and one of the towns associated with the English Riviera.

• Mount wanted the video to resemble the glossy, glamorous style of Will Smith's "Miami," but relocated to the English coast.

• Filming took place over two days in spring. The crew was fortunate to get sunny weather, as Mount noted that rain would have changed the video's tone considerably.

• Local support was unusually extensive: roads were closed for the production, and the crew stayed at the Grand Hotel free of charge.

• The planned helicopter filming nearly became an off-camera disaster when the hotel's owner, who had offered the aerial flight, crashed his helicopter the day before the shoot. He was unhurt, but another arrangement had to be made.

• The video won Best Editing at the 2011 Antville Music Video Awards and Best Music Video at the 2012 Bornshorts Film Festival.
