Synopsis

Chromeo's Dave 1 waits outside a department store with flowers, only to be stood up. He eventually enters the shop, where the mannequins suddenly spring to life and begin dancing. As the store's janitor, Toro y Moi joins the surreal after-hours party, while Dave 1 grows increasingly fascinated by the animated displays. The video turns the song's romantic frustration into a playful fantasy about attraction, loneliness, and finding chemistry in an unexpected place.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was released on January 30, 2014, ahead of Chromeo's fourth studio album, White Women.
  • Its central idea recalls the 1987 romantic comedy Mannequin, in which a department-store mannequin comes to life and becomes the object of a man's affection.
  • Toro y Moi appears as the store janitor. His real name is Chaz Bundick, and he also provides guest vocals on the track.
  • The mannequins are not merely background props: they become the video's dance ensemble, transforming the department store into a surreal nightclub after hours.
  • The clip helped establish "Come Alive" as one of the more overtly playful and theatrical singles connected with the White Women campaign.
