Synopsis

Jason Derulo performs as a man trying to repair a damaged relationship. Inside a sunlit home, he shares intimate moments with his girlfriend before the mood turns distant and regretful. As he sings about apologizing and asking for another chance, he waits outside her door, hoping she will let him back into her life. The video uses close-ups, dramatic lighting, and choreographed performance scenes to underline the song's emotional tension between remorse, longing, and the possibility of reconciliation.

Factoids & Trivia

• "Whatcha Say" was Jason Derulo's debut single and became his first major hit. The song reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in November 2009.

• The track prominently reworks the vocal bridge from Imogen Heap's 2005 song "Hide and Seek." Heap's processed vocal became the most recognizable element of Derulo's recording.

• The music video was made available as an iTunes free video of the week on October 27, 2009, before its television premiere on AMTV on November 16, 2009.

• An acoustic version received its own separate video. That performance presents Derulo with J. R. Rotem at the piano, offering a stripped-back contrast to the more heavily produced main version.

• The single's success helped establish Derulo before the release of his self-titled debut album, which arrived in 2010.
