Synopsis

Paramore appear battered and disheveled inside an abandoned warehouse, dressed in formal clothes marked by dirt, blood, and red carnations. A mysterious man enters, throws a flower to Hayley Williams, and leads the band outside, where a film crew has prepared a performance set. Before filming begins, makeup artists add fake wounds to their faces and hands. The band then plays "Emergency" while the video cuts between the staged performance and Williams singing alone in the damaged room.

Factoids & Trivia

  • "Emergency" was released as the second single from Paramore's debut album, "All We Know Is Falling." The video arrived in 2006, during the period when the band was expanding its audience through touring and the Vans Warped Tour.
  • The video was shot in an abandoned warehouse and deliberately presents the band as if they have just survived a violent confrontation, before revealing that the injuries are part of a staged production.
  • The red carnations were connected to Hayley Williams' idea that people should not hide their scars or the difficult experiences they carry. She described the flowers as representing the emotional baggage brought into the band's shared journey.
  • The song was written during a difficult period in Williams' family life. Its theme of relationships being treated carelessly gives the video's wounded, emotionally exhausted imagery an autobiographical undertone.
  • The formal dress worn by Williams in the video was later displayed as part of a Warped Tour exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
  • The video is notable for featuring Hunter Lamb on rhythm guitar. He had joined Paramore after Jason Bynum's departure in late 2005.
