Synopsis

Stormlord's "I Am Legend" turns the song's post-apocalyptic premise into a compact horror story. A lone survivor takes refuge as night falls, surrounded by undead creatures that emerge from the darkness and press in on his hiding place. Daylight offers only a temporary reprieve, leaving him trapped in a cycle of fear, violence, and isolation. Inspired by Richard Matheson's novel, the clip emphasizes grim atmosphere, creature makeup, and splatter effects rather than a conventional performance-driven narrative.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was inspired by Richard Matheson's 1954 novel "I Am Legend," rather than by the later Will Smith film, which was released in 2007.
  • "I Am Legend" was Stormlord's first official music video. The song appeared on the band's 2001 album "At the Gates of Utopia."
  • The clip was filmed in November 2002 and became available online in January 2003, initially as a free download from Stormlord's website.
  • Its horror styling was connected with the Italian genre tradition, with the video described by contemporary coverage as a tribute to classic Italian horror cinema.
  • The special effects were handled by Fanta X, with David Bracci associated with the effects work. Bracci came from the team around veteran Italian effects artist Sergio Stivaletti, known for work linked to Dario Argento's horror productions.
  • Production credits list Alberto Messaggi as director of photography and Stefano Romani as production manager.
  • The video helped establish Stormlord's early reputation among both extreme-metal listeners and horror and splatter fans.
  • The band's later video for "Under the Boards (195, M.A.)" continued this horror-focused approach, making "I Am Legend" the starting point for a recurring cinematic style in Stormlord's visual work.
