Synopsis

A Queen Elizabeth II look-alike abandons royal formality for a chaotic night out in London's Soho. Drinking in a pub, eating a kebab, picking fights with bouncers and strangers, and getting involved with a lap dancer, she behaves like a reckless celebrity determined to escape her public image. The night escalates when police give chase, turning the satirical fantasy into a comic, unruly portrait of the Queen as someone the media may never truly know.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video uses the "JaxxHouz" version of "U Don't Know Me," the Basement Jaxx track released as one of two new songs on the 2005 compilation *The Singles*.
  • The central idea came from imagining the Queen going out for the night without her bodyguards. The concept plays on the gap between a public figure's carefully managed image and a private personality that audiences can never fully access.
  • The Queen impersonator's behavior caused controversy in the United Kingdom. A scene involving her groping a lap dancer led MTV UK to restrict the video to post-watershed evening broadcasts.
  • A less offensive alternate edit was later prepared. The decision to remove the scene was questioned because the original video already included drinking, street violence, and apparent dealings with criminals.
  • The clip was nominated for Best Video at the 2005 Antville Music Video Awards.
  • The song's lead vocal was performed by Lisa Kekaula of The Bellrays, who had also appeared on Basement Jaxx's "Good Luck."
