Synopsis

Set inside a sterile semiconductor fabrication plant, the video follows two workers in white cleanroom suits as they quietly notice one another while overseeing the production of computer chips. Their routine unfolds alongside close-ups of machinery, silicon wafers, and microscopic circuitry. During the bridge, the camera follows a wafer through an expansive visual journey, moving from a chip to a satellite, then to Earth and back into the factory. The workers ultimately exchange the wafer before returning to their separate duties.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video premiered in April 2003, shortly after "Such Great Heights" became one of the defining tracks from the Postal Service's debut album, "Give Up."

• Rather than using a conventional set, the production filmed inside a real semiconductor fabrication plant operated by Skyworks Solutions. The workers' elaborate white suits reflect the protective clothing required in a cleanroom environment.

• The video uses a dramatic scale shift during the bridge: the viewer moves from semiconductor machinery to a satellite in orbit, then down toward Earth and back to a factory monitor displaying a similar chip.

• Skyworks branding was blurred in versions distributed through iTunes and other outlets, reportedly because the company's name and logo were trademarked.

• In January 2006, an Apple and Intel television commercial drew attention for closely reproducing the video's cleanroom setting, imagery, and shot structure. Ben Gibbard said the band had not approved the commercialization and objected to not being consulted.
