Synopsis

The video follows a sleepless young man, played by Alexis Conran, through a shadowy, stylized nighttime world. Its fragmented images and dreamlike pacing mirror the track's woozy blend of looping piano, restrained beats, and chopped vocal textures. Rather than presenting a straightforward narrative, the film creates an atmosphere of nocturnal unease, placing its central figure in an in-between state where ordinary surroundings feel increasingly strange and detached from reality.

• "Insomniac Olympics" first appeared as the title track of Blockhead's 2003 Ninja Tune EP before being included on the 2004 album *Music By Cavelight*.

• The video was included as a QuickTime movie with a limited edition of *Music By Cavelight* reportedly capped at 1,000 copies.

• Alexis Conran appears in the video. He later became widely known as a presenter and co-host of the BBC Three series *The Real Hustle*.

• A longer-form home-video release followed in 2005, when the video was included on a bonus DVD packaged with *Downtown Science*.

• Blockhead described *Music By Cavelight* as a collection of instrumentals made over roughly five years, with much of the material originating in the darker mood of his late-1990s work.
