Wiki

Synopsis

In a jungle threatened by bulldozers, a monkey discovers a discarded electric shaver and uses it to remove his fur, making himself look human. He leaves the forest and enters the city, where he builds a career, accumulates wealth, and climbs into political power. Once he reaches the top, the monkey turns against the society that destroyed his home. The colorful animated video plays as a fast, darkly comic tale about deforestation, assimilation, ambition, and revenge.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was released on November 1, 2011, shortly after "Shave It" arrived as a single through OWSLA on October 4, 2011.
  • It was created by the Argentine animation studio 3DAR as a four-minute 3D CGI short, rather than as a conventional live-action performance video.
  • The production combines stylized 3D character animation with 2D graphic work layered over the finished imagery. The result is a deliberately exaggerated look, with vivid colors, angular forms, and cartoonishly expressive characters.
  • The project was also circulated as a standalone animated short and appeared in international animation festival programs, including the 2014 Ars Electronica Animation Festival.
  • The alternate version "Shave It Up" later appeared on Zedd's debut album, *Clarity*. The original track was also expanded into a remix EP titled *Shave It - The Aftershave*.
