Synopsis
A children's birthday party at a leisure center takes an abrupt turn when a strange, apparently sentient mascot arrives. The puppet-like figure performs Busdriver's rapid-fire verses while the celebration descends into surreal menace, leaving the children trapped in a bizarre nightmare of forced smiles, mechanical movement and escalating chaos. The video's bright party setting clashes with its cold, uncanny atmosphere, turning a familiar scene of childhood entertainment into an unsettling piece of absurdist horror.
Factoids & Trivia
- Released in 2009, the video was the first promotional video for Busdriver's album *Jhelli Beam*, issued by Anti- Records.
- The central mascot was inspired by the unsettling quality of animatronic performers, particularly their fixed expressions and seemingly lifeless eyes.
- The visual concept places a deliberately sinister, almost Lynchian mood inside a brightly lit suburban party environment.
- The video was produced by Ross Girard, photographed by Clay Jeter and Will Basanta, edited by Brandon Driscoll-Luttringer, and completed with visual effects by Steve Drypolcher and Peter Sauvey.
- "Me-Time (With the Pulmonary Palimpsest)" is built around Mozart's "Sonata in A Major," an unusual foundation for Busdriver's densely articulated rap performance.
