Wiki

Synopsis

After years in suspended animation, Major Lazer is revived to confront the villainous General Rubbish. Joined by Knife Fight, the laser-armed Jamaican hero battles Rubbish's heavily armed forces in a fast-moving mission filled with explosions, comic-book violence, bizarre villains, and exaggerated 1980s action-movie theatrics. The live-action mini-movie turns Major Lazer's animated alter ego into a flesh-and-blood superhero, with the song's defiant refrain providing the soundtrack to his rampage.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was released on August 19, 2013, and promotes "Scare Me," featuring Peaches and Timberlee, from Major Lazer's album *Free the Universe*.
  • Terry Crews plays Major Lazer, bringing the group's previously animated mascot into live action for the first time.
  • The supporting cast includes Nick Kroll as Cinco, Lauren London as Knife Fight, Blake Anderson as Cyrus, and Jean-Marc Danois as General Rubbish.
  • The clip expands Major Lazer's comic-book mythology into a short action film rather than using a conventional performance-video format.
  • Its visual style deliberately draws on exaggerated 1980s action movies, combining macho heroics, over-the-top villains, practical weapons, and deliberately cartoonish violence.
  • The video runs for roughly three and a half minutes, with a substantial portion devoted to its stylized end-credit sequence.
  • The end credits use "Mashup the Dance," another Major Lazer track featuring The Partysquad and Ward 21.
  • Production credits identify Monster Effects as responsible for special-effects makeup and fabrication, while Robot Uprising handled visual effects. Laundry! created the animated credit sequence.
