Josh Record - The War

Wiki

Synopsis

Josh Record performs in a shadowy, dreamlike landscape where darkness, smoke and bursts of light create an atmosphere of unease. A mysterious figure wrapped in fabric appears around him, while slow-motion explosions and drifting haze suggest emotional conflict rather than literal combat. The video uses sparse, surreal imagery to mirror the song's folky intensity, presenting "The War" as an internal struggle surrounded by spectral, almost nightmarish visions.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was released on July 2, 2013, through Josh Record's official YouTube channel, alongside the release campaign for *The War* EP.
  • Record has described "The War" as the song that emerged after he kept writing until he found something genuine. In an interview, he explained that the track concerns the effort required to make a relationship work.
  • The production was made by Colonel Blimp. The credited team included producer Georgina Fillmore, director of photography Steve Annis, art director Laura Johnstone, editor Max Windows and colorist Blair Wallace.
  • The visual treatment deliberately moves away from a conventional performance video. Smoke, flares, fabric and slow-motion effects create an abstract setting that reflects the song's emotional rather than literal sense of conflict.
  • "The War" became an important early breakthrough for Record after BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe selected it as his "Hottest Record of 2013."
