Synopsis

Set against a playful beach-party backdrop, the video places the Presidents of the United States of America in a studio transformed into a sandy playground. The band performs "Dune Buggy" amid blankets, a campfire and a crowd of brightly dressed extras who sing along with the song. The deliberately homemade atmosphere matches the track's cartoonish imagery, while strange stage equipment, energetic close-ups and a burst of fireworks give the performance a surreal, celebratory finish.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was shot in Seattle on April 27, 1996, and released in July of that year.

• The studio was filled with a large pile of sand, beach blankets, a simulated campfire and a suspended sound device that resembled an alien spacecraft.

• The production used retro beachwear for the extras, including platform sandals and brightly patterned outfits.

• The video's soundtrack was recorded during the shoot rather than simply using the album version. The extras sang along with the band during the takes.

• Only three takes were filmed. Fireworks were set off inside the studio at the end of the performance, making the finale unusually explosive for a small-scale band video.

• Between takes, the musicians entertained the extras with improvised songs and rewritten lyrics, reinforcing the informal, playful character of the shoot.

• It took approximately three weeks to complete the video after filming.

• "Dune Buggy" was the fourth and final single from the band's 1995 debut album. The single reached No. 15 in the United Kingdom, No. 16 in Australia and No. 2 in Iceland.

• The video was later included on the band's 1998 compilation album "Pure Frosting," which also featured the group's other early promotional clips.
