Synopsis
A socially awkward teenager sits alone, detached from the world around him, until a television broadcast of the Thunderbirds captures his attention. Inspired by the show's polished heroics and unmistakable style, he begins reshaping himself to fit the expectations of teenage social life. The video turns that transformation into a parade of Australian performers, with band after band appearing in a continuous moving shot. TISM remain conspicuously absent until the final moments, when their masked appearance arrives too late to perform.
Factoids & Trivia
- The video was released in Australia on October 9, 1998, alongside the single from TISM's album *www.tism.wanker.com*.
- Its central visual device is an extended tracking shot that moves from one performer to the next without conventional cutting. Thirty Australian bands and musical acts appear before TISM finally enter the frame.
- The lineup includes 28 Days, Blood Duster, Klinger, Mach Pelican, Ruby Doomsday, Tiltmeter, The Sex Bombs, and the Ringwood Secondary College Choir and Orchestra.
- TISM's masked members appear at the very end, effectively missing their own performance as the song finishes. The joke neatly extends the band's interest in anonymity, anticlimax, and sabotaging music-video conventions.
- Blair McDonough appears with Snubrocket. He later became a runner-up on the first season of *Big Brother Australia* and joined the cast of *Neighbours*.
- A remix of the song, titled the "5! 4! 3! 2! 1! Mix," was used as the opening and closing theme for the Australian political satire series *BackBerner*.
- The video was later included among the music-video material associated with TISM's 2004 *The White Albun* release.
