Synopsis

The video presents Sunz Of Man in a high-energy performance setting, with the group delivering their verses alongside Ol' Dirty Bastard's unpredictable presence. Earth, Wind & Fire's association with the song is reflected in the prominent "Shining Star" refrain, while patriotic imagery, including the American flag, gives the clip a larger-than-life backdrop. The visual style matches the track's crossover ambitions, combining Wu-Tang-affiliated street rap with a polished, funk-oriented presentation aimed at music television.

Factoids & Trivia

• Released in 1998, the video promoted Sunz Of Man's debut album, "The Last Shall Be First," which arrived through the Wu-Tang and Red Ant labels.

• "Shining Star" reworks Earth, Wind & Fire's 1975 hit of the same name. Maurice White and Philip Bailey contributed vocals and instrumentation to the new version.

• The track was produced by Wyclef Jean, who was then enjoying a major crossover period through his work with the Fugees and related projects.

• Ol' Dirty Bastard's appearance connects the song to the wider Wu-Tang Clan universe. His highly animated performance became one of the video's most memorable features.

• The clip was circulated through major music-video outlets of the period, including BET, The Box, and "Yo! MTV Raps."

• Despite the recognizable Earth, Wind & Fire hook and the Wu-Tang connection, the single did not become a major chart success. It remains a notable example of the late-1990s meeting point between classic funk, conscious rap, and Wu-Tang-affiliated hip-hop.
