Synopsis

A group of inquisitive children receives an interplanetary transmission from the Smashing Pumpkins and decides to travel through space to see the band in person. Working like a miniature science crew, they assemble an elaborate rocket from available materials, launch it, and arrive on a distant planet. Their excitement turns to surprise when they discover that the musicians have aged considerably since the original broadcast. The playful science-fiction story is intercut with performance footage of the band in space-themed costumes.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was filmed in Sylmar, California, in April 1994.

• Billy Corgan later recalled that the band wore custom-made spacesuits for their performance scenes. He said his own suit was worn only once during the shoot.

• Corgan also remembered that the idea for the band to age by the end of the video came from him. He joked that the older version of himself struggled to play the song's final chords in time.

• Mark Shunkey is credited as the "Rocket Boy" in the video's cast listings.

• The 2001 *Greatest Hits Video Collection* includes an alternate cut consisting only of the band's performance footage.

• "Rocket" was released as the fourth and final single from *Siamese Dream* in December 1994.
