Synopsis

Walking through a dark park, Shannon overhears a man pleading with his partner for one more night before their relationship ends. Soon, Shannon finds herself in a similar situation, facing a mysterious lover who refuses to accept goodbye. The video turns the song's troubled romantic exchange into a surreal fantasy, using theatrical costumes, shadowy sets, and mythic imagery. In the final reversal, Shannon transforms from the pursued figure into a powerful goddess-like presence, changing the balance of power and making her former pursuer the prey.

Factoids & Trivia

  • "Give Me Tonight" was released as Shannon's follow-up to "Let the Music Play" in February 1984. The music video is listed as a 1984 production with a runtime of approximately four minutes.
  • The opening couple are styled with biblical and theatrical imagery, evoking an Adam-and-Eve pairing filtered through the flamboyant visual language of early-1980s dance television.
  • Shannon's lover in the second half is presented less as an ordinary romantic partner than as a supernatural embodiment of Love. His ornate, dark costume gives the scene a gothic and almost vampiric quality.
  • The ending deliberately reverses the power dynamic established by the song. Shannon's transformation turns her from the person being pressured to stay into the figure who controls the encounter.
  • The song reached No. 1 on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart, No. 6 on the U.S. R&B chart, and No. 46 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1984. It also reached No. 24 in the United Kingdom and No. 26 in Germany.
  • The chorus features the voice of session guitarist and vocalist Jimi Tunnell, whose contribution was not credited on the original release.
  • The track was revisited in 2000 through the "Give Me Tonight (2000 A.D. Mixes)," remixed by Hex Hector.
  • Adore Delano recorded a cover for the 2014 album "Till Death Do Us Party." The cover was later issued as a single in 2015 with its own music video.
