Synopsis

Rammstein perform "Sehnsucht" before a packed audience at Berlin's Parkbuhne Wuhlheide. The clip captures the band's severe stage presence in flashes of red light, smoke, pounding machinery and tightly framed crowd shots. Till Lindemann dominates the performance, delivering the song with theatrical menace and briefly striking himself with a leather whip. Rather than following a storyline, the video turns the track into a concentrated showcase for Rammstein's confrontational live style and the atmosphere of their late-1990s concerts.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The footage comes from Rammstein's concerts at Wuhlheide on August 22 and 23, 1998, which were filmed for the *Live aus Berlin* release. More than 17,000 fans attended each show.
  • "Sehnsucht" was issued as a promotional-only single in the United States. Its video helped present the band to the American market during the period when they were expanding their audience overseas.
  • The performance was later associated closely with *Live aus Berlin*, the 1999 live album and concert film documenting the band's *Sehnsucht* era.
  • The video is built entirely around live material rather than a separate narrative production. Some edits use concert images drawn from elsewhere in the filmed show, giving the clip a more aggressive, montage-like feel than a straight performance recording.
  • The song was already known in an earlier form as "Afrika" during the band's 1996 working period.

Lyrics

La? mich deine Trane reiten
ubers Kinn nach Afrika
wieder in den Schoss der Lowin
wo ich einst zuhause war
Zwischen deine langen Beinen
such den Schnee vom letzten Jahr
doch es ist kein Schnee mehr da

Lass mich deine Trane reiten
uber Wolken ohne Gluck
der grosse Vogel schiebt den Kopf
sanft in sein Versteck zuruck
Zwischen deine langen Beinen
