Synopsis
The Pharcyde turn heartbreak into a surreal underwater fantasy. Slimkid3 performs amid flooded sets, floating figures, swimming women, and warped, psychedelic imagery that makes the studio feel like an alien ocean. The murky visuals mirror the song's dreamy jazz-rap production and its theme of moving on after lost love. Rather than following a conventional storyline, the video builds an impressionistic world where the performers drift through a colorful, submerged landscape shaped by memory, desire, and emotional disorientation.
Factoids & Trivia
- "Otha Fish" was the only solo track on *Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde*, with Slimkid3 handling the vocal spotlight. It was also the album's only track not produced by J-Swift; L.A. Jay produced the song.
- The production was ambitious for its time, using a flooded studio and extensive water imagery. The resulting footage was intentionally surreal, colorful, grainy, and distorted, although later comments from the group noted that the water effects were murkier than intended.
- Fatlip reportedly objected to a Slimkid3 solo track being released as a single and refused to appear in the video. The decision became part of the growing internal tension around the group after the release of their debut album.
- The song was released as a single in 1993, but its left-field sound and unconventional video received limited mainstream support. The video was directed by Kevin Kerslake, who was also known for work with Nirvana, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the Smashing Pumpkins.
- The track samples Herbie Mann's "Today" and reached number 35 on the US Dance Sales chart.
