Synopsis

Two strangers prepare for a date that seems destined to happen. Each checks their appearance, rehearses possible words, and imagines the encounter ahead, while the video follows their parallel anticipation through the worn, atmospheric spaces of Los Angeles' Ambassador Hotel. Their hopes and nervous energy build as the appointed meeting time approaches. Yet the expected romance never begins: the pair miss one another, leaving only a melancholy portrait of hesitation, missed timing, and the love that remains unspoken.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was released in 1996 to promote "Love Untold," the first single from Westerberg's second solo album, Eventually.
  • The narrative was filmed at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, a location that gives the clip its faded, cinematic atmosphere.
  • The music video was made by David Naylor & Associates, with an estimated budget of $85,000.
  • The clip runs for approximately four minutes and was released in the United States on November 11, 1996.
  • "Love Untold" became Westerberg's strongest solo showing on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart, reaching No. 21 in June 1996.
  • Contemporary radio trade coverage described the video as being closer to a mini-movie than a conventional performance clip.
  • The song came from early sessions with producer Brendan O'Brien. Westerberg later regrouped with Lou Giordano for the rest of Eventually, after the O'Brien sessions produced only a small number of completed tracks.

Lyrics

They were gonna meet
On a Rocky Mountain street
Two bashful hearts beat in advance
Their hands were gonna sweat
It was all set
She ain't showed up yet
Still a good chance
