Synopsis

Jane Horrocks plays a solitary traveler who wakes inside a large box in the countryside. She sets off toward the city, carrying a suitcase that mysteriously increases in size each time the scene cuts. The journey unfolds with a dry, dreamlike logic, turning an ordinary walk into an escalating visual puzzle. By the end, the suitcase has grown as large as the original box, allowing Horrocks to climb inside and complete the video’s circular image.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was released in 1995 to accompany the Arthur Baker remix of "1963," rather than the song's original 1987 version.

• "1963" was originally issued as the B-side to "True Faith." It was later released as a single with new mixes, including the version used for the video.

• Jane Horrocks was invited to appear by producer Michael H. Shamberg. She later recalled being a major Joy Division fan and regarded appearing in a New Order video as a special honor.

• The production uses a deliberately simple visual device - the expanding suitcase - to create a surreal, almost storybook transformation without relying on conventional performance footage.
