Synopsis

L7 turn a personal apology into an absurd street-level music video. The band members roam around Los Angeles, addressing Andres, a long-haired North Hollywood rehearsal-studio manager, while adopting exaggerated outfits, wigs, props, and comic gestures. Their performance alternates with scenes of the women pleading, clowning around, and trying to make amends for introducing Andres to a friend who stole from him. The result is less a conventional narrative than a deliberately chaotic, playful apology delivered with L7's punk humor and confrontational style.

Factoids & Trivia

  • "Andres" was inspired by a real incident involving a friend of L7's who stole equipment from Andres, the manager of their North Hollywood rehearsal studio. The band felt responsible because they had introduced the two men.
  • Donita Sparks and Suzi Gardner wrote the song from the uncomfortable aftermath. A serious, embarrassing situation was transformed into a short, catchy apology with a deliberately comic tone.
  • Andres appears in the video himself. He is recognizable as the long-haired man wearing a face mask.
  • The production was intentionally guerrilla-style. The shoot was carried out quickly with a very small crew rather than a large-scale music-video setup.
  • A bizarre accident occurred during production when Sparks was reportedly mauled by a poodle and taken to the hospital. Both Sparks and the dog were said to be fine, and the incident was included in the finished video.
  • Released in 1994 as the lead single from "Hungry for Stink," "Andres" became one of L7's best-known songs. It later appeared as downloadable content in the "Rock Band" music game series.

Lyrics

Down in North Hollywood
There's a guy with long hair
He's really, really nice
But we had a problem

Andres
I'm sorry

The key is stuck in the lock
And we need some AC
It's burning up in here
We've got something to tell you
