Synopsis
Kim Wilde performs "You Came" across a collage of studio, backstage, street and concert footage. In the quieter black-clad sequences, she moves through everyday settings, sings in the studio and appears with her band. These scenes are contrasted with energetic shots of Wilde performing in white before a large Berlin crowd. The video captures both the polished pop persona and the restless reality of life on tour, giving the romantic song a distinctly late-1980s concert atmosphere.
Factoids & Trivia
- The video was assembled partly from footage filmed in Berlin during the 1988 European leg of Michael Jackson's Bad Tour, on which Wilde appeared as a support act.
- Its mixture of backstage, everyday and live footage makes it more of a tour portrait than a conventional narrative video.
- "You Came" was released on July 4, 1988, as the second single from Wilde's album Close.
- The single became one of Wilde's biggest UK successes, reaching No. 3 on the Official Singles Chart.
- Wilde later recalled that the Berlin shows took place shortly before the fall of the Berlin Wall in November 1989. She also remembered performing at the Reichstag after the Wall came down.
- A separate version of "You Came" was recorded and filmed in 2006 for the album Never Say Never. That later video was shot in London and centered on Wilde rehearsing with her band.
