Synopsis

In a surreal shoreline landscape, Shirley Manson discovers a seemingly unconscious man washed up beside a rock pool. As she tends to him, the other members of Garbage appear as shadowy figures in the distance, while a strange reflection of Manson seems to act independently across from her. A huge pair of eyes dominates the sky, and glowing particles drift through the scene like bioluminescent insects. The man's revival brings a shift in color and focus before the video dissolves into its dreamlike conclusion.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was filmed on February 26, 1999, on a Los Angeles soundstage rather than at an actual beach. The production built a rock pool, white sand dunes, and the stylized sky seen in the finished clip.

• Professional surfer Kelly Slater plays the man who washes ashore. His appearance attracted considerable attention at the time because he was then associated with Pamela Anderson.

• Brad Pitt was originally cast as the rescued man but withdrew the night before filming. Slater took over the role at the last minute.

• The visual concept was intended to combine the atmosphere of an Ingmar Bergman film with imagery from a samurai movie.

• Garbage's male members were filmed for the production, but most of their footage was removed during offline editing after the band and the production team decided it did not work well enough in the final cut.

• The video first received a commercial release in 1999 on the cover-mounted CD-ROM *All About Garbage*, issued with the Italian magazine *Tribe*. It was later included on the 2007 *Absolute Garbage* DVD and uploaded to the band's VEVO channel.

• "You Look So Fine" was the final single from *Version 2.0*, whose closing track it is. The song also became a regular closing number for Garbage during the album's two-year world tour.
