Synopsis

Cyndi Lauper performs "Money Changes Everything" in a high-energy concert setting, transforming the song's breakup story into a communal rock spectacle. The video moves between wide shots of the stage, close-ups of Lauper singing, and enthusiastic audience reactions. Her animated gestures, colorful appearance, and forceful delivery give the performance a spontaneous, almost unruly feel. Rather than illustrating the lyrics with a separate storyline, the clip focuses on Lauper's charisma and the emotional release of the live arrangement.

Factoids & Trivia

• The promotional video was assembled from concert footage filmed at The Summit in Houston, Texas, during October 1984.

• The Houston performance had originally been recorded for a planned home video release scheduled for 1985. That project was abandoned, leaving "Money Changes Everything" as one of the best-known uses of the footage.

• The clip was made available for U.S. music-video programming in November 1984, around the time the song was issued as the fifth U.S. single from *She's So Unusual*.

• The live recording was also used in a radio promotion campaign. Special 12-inch discs containing the performance soundtrack were sent to album-oriented radio stations.

• Lauper's version is a cover of a song written by Tom Gray and first recorded by his Atlanta band, The Brains.

• "Money Changes Everything" peaked at No. 27 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it the only U.S. single from *She's So Unusual* not to reach the Top 5.
