Synopsis

A lonely milk carton springs to life after seeing Graham Coxon's face printed on its side as a missing-person notice. Determined to reunite him with his worried family, the carton leaves home and crosses a hazardous urban landscape, surviving traffic, litter, careless pedestrians and other everyday threats. Its search eventually leads to Blur rehearsing in a studio, where Coxon realizes how much his family misses him. Along the way, the carton also finds romance with a strawberry milk carton.

Factoids & Trivia

• "Coffee & TV" was released as the second single from Blur's 1999 album "13" and was written and sung by Graham Coxon, rather than Damon Albarn.

• Coxon wrote the song around his struggle with alcoholism and the quieter routine he adopted while trying to stay sober: coffee, television and songwriting.

• The missing-person premise draws on the use of milk cartons in the United States to publicize missing children. The video turns that familiar image into a literal character searching for the person pictured on its packaging.

• The production company Hammer & Tongs worked with Jim Henson's Creature Workshop on the special effects. Their collaboration helped give the carton a convincing physical personality without relying entirely on conventional animation.

• The video became one of Blur's most recognizable visual pieces, winning major awards including Best Video at the NME Awards and the MTV Europe Awards.
