Wiki

Synopsis

Belinda Carlisle finds herself overwhelmed by an irresistible attraction to a mysterious man played by model and actor Tony Ward. The video turns romantic infatuation into a surreal visual fantasy, surrounding Carlisle with burning hearts, photographs, falling roses, and tangled satin sheets. Color and black-and-white images share the frame, shifting between heightened glamour and emotional disorientation. As Ward's presence leaves Carlisle seemingly powerless, people around her react as though his charisma is almost physically overwhelming.

Factoids & Trivia

  • "I Get Weak" was released in 1988 as the second single from Carlisle's album *Heaven on Earth*.
  • The song reached No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and No. 10 on the UK Singles Chart.
  • Diane Warren wrote the song, while Rick Nowels produced it. Warren initially imagined the song as a possible vehicle for Stevie Nicks before Nowels felt it suited Carlisle better.
  • The video uses a striking mixture of color and black-and-white footage within the same visual world, reinforcing the song's blend of fantasy and romantic vulnerability.
  • Tony Ward later appeared in Madonna's "Justify My Love" video.
  • The extended seven-minute version of "I Get Weak" was included on the 2009 special edition of *Heaven on Earth*.
