Synopsis

The Beastie Boys arrive at a club hoping to play, but the owner rejects them because he only wants rock music. Undeterred, they return in exaggerated glam-metal costumes and wigs, winning a spot onstage. The performance quickly turns chaotic as fans swarm the band, clothes are torn away, and the group battles the club staff amid headbanging, destruction, and overblown rock theatrics. During the guitar solo, Slayer's Kerry King takes over from a gorilla, before the band raids the club safe and escapes with the money.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was conceived as a string of heavy-metal-themed gags rather than a conventional performance clip. Its oversized wigs, flashy costumes, screaming fans, headbanging, and stage destruction parody the glam-metal videos that dominated MTV in the 1980s.

• The production had a larger budget than the Beastie Boys' previous video, "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)," whose success helped make the follow-up possible.

• Kerry King of Slayer played the guitar solo on the recording and appears in the video during the solo. The collaboration reflected producer Rick Rubin's close connection to both groups at the time.

• Adam Dubin originally performed the solo while wearing the gorilla suit. The planned joke was for Kerry King to be knocked offstage by the gorilla, but King objected. The scene was changed so that King knocks the gorilla out of the way instead.

• The video's club owner is played by Vic Noto, while actress Ruth Collins appears as the featured dancer. Collins was known primarily for appearances in 1980s horror films.

• The title itself spoofs Motorhead's 1981 live album "No Sleep 'til Hammersmith," reinforcing the video's deliberate collision of hip-hop, hard rock, and heavy-metal imagery.
