Synopsis

Supergrass are trapped in the repetitive rhythm of life on the road. The band appears in a succession of anonymous hotel rooms, with keys, clothes and subtle changes in their appearance marking the passage of time. Their movements shift between sluggish slow motion and sudden acceleration, while repeated and rewound shots create a dreamlike sense of disorientation. Rather than presenting touring as glamorous, the video turns it into a weary cycle of arrivals, departures and interchangeable rooms.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video mirrors the song's subject: the fatigue and monotony of touring. Its visual language emphasizes repetition, routine and the loss of any fixed sense of place.
  • Hotel keys function as a simple visual record of the band's constant movement. The changing rooms and outfits suggest that time is passing even when the routine itself remains unchanged.
  • The editing alternates between sped-up and slowed-down footage, with repeated and reversed moments adding to the video’s unsettled, almost sleepwalking atmosphere.
  • Released in September 1999, "Moving" reached number 9 on the UK Singles Chart. It became Supergrass' last UK top-10 single.
  • The video was later included in the music-video collection accompanying the 2004 compilation *Supergrass Is 10*.
