Synopsis

Jimmy Page and Robert Plant are shown as prisoners inside a grim, numbered cell block. Their confinement is surrounded by grotesque, mutated figures occupying neighboring cells, where strange rituals and dark acts unfold. The claustrophobic setting, stark lighting, and surreal imagery give the performance a nightmarish, almost occult atmosphere. Rather than following a conventional narrative, the video builds a visual counterpart to the song's spiritual and religious language, contrasting the duo's presence with a bizarre world of captivity, transformation, and ritual.

Factoids & Trivia

  • "Most High" was released in 1998 as the lead single from *Walking into Clarksdale*, the only studio album made by Page and Plant as a duo.
  • The video's religious imagery reflects the song's title and lyrical themes, but the presentation is deliberately unsettling rather than devotional. Its numbered cells and grotesque inhabitants give the material a dystopian, surrealist treatment.
  • The track won the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance, giving Page and Plant one of the most notable awards of their post-Led Zeppelin collaboration.
  • "Most High" reached No. 1 on the US Billboard Mainstream Rock chart and No. 26 on the UK singles chart.
  • The song combines hard-rock weight with world-music elements. A quarter-tone keyboard part was used to suggest Moroccan trance influences.
  • The video was later included among the bonus materials on the DVD release of *No Quarter: Jimmy Page and Robert Plant Unledded*.
