Synopsis

The video opens with a funeral procession outside a church before shifting into the boisterous world of New York's St. Patrick's Day celebrations. House of Pain perform amid crowds, marching bands, Irish revelers, barroom scenes, and street footage, while the group's aggressive delivery fuels the disorderly party atmosphere. Shot around Manhattan, the clip moves between the parade route, Central Park, and an Irish bar, presenting the group as rowdy Irish American outsiders at the center of a citywide celebration.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was filmed during New York City's 1992 St. Patrick's Day parade, giving it an unusually documentary-like feel rather than the polished, staged look common to many early-1990s rap videos.
  • The original plan was to shoot a video for another House of Pain song in New York. According to Danny Boy, the label changed direction during the shoot and decided to use the parade for "Jump Around" instead.
  • Much of the video was reportedly filmed in a single day while the production waited for the parade to take place.
  • Additional footage was shot in Central Park and at Old Town Bar and Restaurant.
  • New York Yankees superfan Freddy Schuman appears near the end, ringing his recognizable shamrock-decorated pan in the parade crowd.
  • The video's Irish American imagery helped turn "Jump Around" into a recurring St. Patrick's Day anthem, even though the group came from the Los Angeles hip-hop scene.
  • The song's beat was initially intended for Cypress Hill before it was passed to House of Pain. DJ Muggs produced the track, while Everlast wrote much of the vocal in Muggs' driveway.
  • "Jump Around" later became a major sports-arena anthem, including the famous tradition of fans jumping to it between the third and fourth quarters at University of Wisconsin football games.
  • The track's long afterlife in movies, television, commercials, and sporting events helped keep the video and its visual identity familiar well beyond its 1992 release.

Lyrics

Pack it up, pack it in
Let me begin
I came to win
Battle me that's asin
I won't tear the sack up
Punk you'd better back up
Try and play therole and the whole crew will act up
Get up, stand up, come on!
Come on,throw your hands up
If you've got the feeling jump across theceiling
Muggs is a funk fest, someone's talking junk
Yo, I'll bust em inthe eye
And then I'll take the punks home
